Preparing families with dogs for life with babies and toddlers
Are you expecting or already have a baby or toddler? Don’t wait for problems to arise, work with a licensed Family Paws Parent Educator to set everyone up for success - including:
-
Preparing for your baby’s homecoming. The time to start is well before the baby arrives. Many changes occur both before and after delivery - including your daily routines, sleeping arrangements, baby equipment, and more - all of which can impact behavior.
-
Adjusting your plans as your baby reaches new milestones. These rapid changes in your baby's movements, sounds and visuals can be unsettling for your dog, and must be planned for beforehand to ensure safety, inclusion, and fun for all.
Separation Anxiety - Teach your dog to feel safe when home alone
Does your dog show signs of distress when left alone, such as destroying things, vocalizing, or eliminating? These behaviors can be extremely difficult for you and your dog - but know that there is hope. Work with a certified separation anxiety trainer (CSAT) to effectively resolve these behaviors through scientific and humane methods - all aimed to teach your dog to feel safe when home alone.
This program is structured in 4 week increments and includes the following:
1. One initial 30 minute complimentary video consult to learn more about your situation.
2. One initial 90 minute separation anxiety evaluation - done live via Zoom.
3. Four customized, simple to follow, exercises ("missions") - for you to complete each week.
4. Weekly 60 minute live reassessments to track progress, provide support and resolve issues.
5. Daily feedback and support.
This program is done remotely (the dog needs to be alone in his own home), and therefore, I am able to serve anyone throughout the USA.

PRINCIPLES
1. The principles of dog behavior and learning are based on science - not anecdotes, myths, or opinions.
2. The most important component to your dog's progress in training and overall well-being - is you.
3. Mastering the general principles and techniques of dog training allows you to progress far beyond our sessions together.
4. Training should be joyful for you and your dog - pain or discomfort have no place in learning.
5. Every interaction is a learning moment.
6. Training is a step by step process. Just like you would not expect a child who doesn't know the alphabet to read, do not expect a dog who has not mastered a recall at home to come to you when chasing a squirrel.
7. No one can guarantee results, but we can choose the right tools in the right moment to increase the likelihood of learning to occur.
8. Think what you want your dog to do, not what you do not want.
9. Your dog's nutrition, health, genetics, and environment all impact learning and must be taken into account.
10. Play with your dog! This provides essential mental, emotional, and physical stimulation.
